A novel set in a small rural town amid a congressional race that forces the candidates, their families, and a clique of gay second homeowners to confront lies, betrayals and shifting allegiances.
A novel ostensibly about one big choice never picks a side on just about anything. Fortunately, this debut novel...is flush with gripping and sharply drawn characters ... A novel about politics that spends all 304 of its pages retreating into the luxurious warmth of being apolitical. It is a purple yard sign that reads 'Choose Kindness' in a sea of blues and reds ... There are plenty of comforts to be found in Town & Country. What a shame that there isn’t nearly as much truth.
The narrative follows these engaging, empathetic, and often heartbreakingly authentic human beings from Memorial Day to the November election, bringing readers along on an emotional roller coaster as they navigate increasingly complex relationships. An auspicious debut for Schaefer.
