From political economist, cabinet member, professor, and media presence, and author, a memoir of growing up in a baby-boom America that made progress in certain areas, fell short in so many important ways, and still has lots of work to do.
Thematically repetitive and baby-boomer-centric to the extreme, Coming Up Short is more manifesto than memoir ... The last section...is the weakest part of the book...as Reich offers a list of nice ideas like 'Rejecting Both-Sides-ism,' 'Sharing Profits' and 'Recirculating Stuff,' but not much of an action plan ... By far the most enjoyable portion of Coming Up Short is when Reich goes full George Bailey on the bullies, particularly people wielding 'hate for personal ambition.'
