RaveHot Press (IRE)Another year, another riveting thriller from Connolly ... One of the great strengths of Connolly\'s writing is his supporting cast of characters, and these likeable—in as far as a brace of deadly assassins can be likeable—chaps are more than able to carry a book on their own ... The other great attribute that Connolly\'s Parker novels have always had are truly despicable, and often quite unnerving, bad guys ... this is a breathless international chase thriller and, as Connolly\'s legion of fans already know, you will gladly go without sleep in order to finish it.
Stephen King
RaveHot Press (IRE)Billy Summers is good news for the sort of timid reviewer that was too \'nervous\' to even watch It with his tough-as-nails teenage daughters, because what\'s on offer here is straight noir. I\'m aware, of course, that far more people are killed by guns than sewer clowns...but they\'re more my cup of tea when it comes to thrillers, and this is a rather good one ... Summers must go undercover in an unnamed city ... The pace picks up and the pages, which were already hurtling by anyway, start to turn at a faster clip ... The trick is—and it\'s a good one—that Summer\'s book slowly takes over from the one we started reading, thanks to some seriously impressive footwork from King. He makes it look awful easy...and knocks another one out over the wall here.

RaveHotpress (IRE)\"A Shock is a fascinating, marvelously accomplished, and even haunting piece of work, and a worthy addition to anyone’s list of things that make life worth living in 2021.\
Kevin Barry
RaveHot PressAs great as Barry’s novels are, the short story – and That Old Country Music offers pretty strong supporting evidence, as did his previous collections There Are Little Kingdoms, and Dark Lies The Island – might be his more natural home ... You can almost imagine Barry as some sort of Keith Richards figure, removing extraneous notes, until he has it all pared back into the perfect riff. The two main characters are so expertly drawn that you feel you’ve known - and been avoiding - them for years ... This is the kind of book you want to start into again as soon as you’ve finished ... It is—and you’d expect nothing less from Barry—exceptionally good.
