PositiveWildnessThe story takes place in Colorado Springs, CO. A town known for its picturesque scenery—a painting in all directions—which makes it feel like you’re trapped in a beautiful prison no one can ever leave. Our narrator, nameless until named, works a regular retail job hoping for something to happen, but not sure what that something might be. Our nameless narrator meets a couple and, whilst she doesn’t realize where things will go, she knows she wants to be taken somewhere … The book is a slow burn and should be enjoyed as such. The relationships are complicated—so take a hint from the characters: take your time. But what if we followed our narrators lead and simply dove headfirst into this story without any pause or time for breath? Like me, you’ll feel worn out by the end of the book.
Yvan Alagbé, Trans. by Donald Nicholson-Smith
RavereadWildness\"Yvan moves from an abstract minimal space to a highly detailed and textured one all on the same page. At times this may bring discomfort, but that’s the point. Yvan’s ink brush strokes do the labor of invoking emotion equal to the text ... Take the time out on your day off and join Yvan for a journey through the lives of those displaced.\
Jenny Xie
RaveReal WildnessTo call Xie’s collection a meditation would be an understatement. Eye Level is a nomad’s mind in transit. The book is told through a series of vignettes in a time away and alone ... Xie compels the reader to look inward and look widely ... Xie’s collection is a reminder that the beauty of the present is that we are now offered the opportunity to provide language to what we once couldn’t articulate ... Eye Level is the message in the bottle brimming with tender love letters to anyone who\'s been found without a home.
