RaveThe Nerd DailyThe synopsis of this book was enough for me to claim it as one of my most anticipated releases this year. That, and the gorgeous cover, of course. But clearly, these were not enough to prepare me for the magnificence of this book. The Unbroken is a military fantasy that is tense, brutal, and unabashedly frank about the complexities of love, loyalty, and imperialism/colonisation ... This book dives deep into politics and military tactics, and at first I thought I would have a hard time following it all, but instead, I was enamoured ... The Unbroken also showed the complexities of colonisation so openly in this book which I really appreciated. I think it’s rare that I get to see a fantasy novel like this, where colonisation is such an integral part of the plot and a significant theme in the story ... Overall, The Unbroken was an epic journey from start to finish. It’s brutal, it’s suspenseful, but most of all, it punches you right in the feels.

RaveThe Nerd DailyWith a striking cover, an intriguing plot, thrilling action, and a diverse cast, Persephone Station makes a great queer SFF read first thing in 2021! ... There were nonbinary characters, sapphic characters, and other gender-neutral characters all throughout the book. It may not seem much to some, but it was so delightful for me to see this kind of representation, especially in SFF ... As for the writing style, it was straightforward, and yet it also left mysteries for the readers here and there ... The plot of Persephone Station was certainly distinctive. I loved the plot twist in the end. My main problem would have to be the pacing. It was fast-paced and action-packed at the early parts of the book. After that, it kind of dwindled down in the middle ... When it comes to the worldbuilding, the author created something so vivid and expansive ... Overall, Persephone Station is a solid read, one that will whisk you away into space, on an alien planet, on a wild ride. Those who are looking for action and remarkable plot will adore this one.

MixedThe Nerd DailyI didn’t love it as much as I thought I would despite it being an entertaining ride ... what I thought was going to be an exciting and ultimately romantic read, lacked a couple of factors that would have made this a spectacular read ... The writing was light and funny, and I liked that it offered a personal touch to Nikki’s perspective, especially when it comes to a few somber and emotional scenes. On the other hand, there was some dialogue that I thought were awkward, plus the overuse or \'growl\' and \'howl\' also felt perplexing for me. As a result, instead of the scene feeling romantic or sexy, I was only left cringing ... The characterisation also felt a little insufficient for me, especially when it comes to the two main characters. It’s as if I couldn’t get a better sense of their personality. Because of this, I also found their chemistry and romance quite off, so I wasn’t really rooting for them. Yes, their whole ordeal was entertaining, but I didn’t feel for them and I didn’t get invested in them ... I love the food truck life and the overall food scene in this book ... When it comes to the plot, it felt a lot like classic romcoms with those melodramatic scenes and grand gestures of love. I feel like some parts were predictable though, and the miscommunication trope was overdone ... Overall, I feel like this was a decent read. It’s not entirely mind blowing, yes, but I think this will be a great choice for those who are looking for a fun, amusing, and romantic read.
Tamsyn Muir
RaveThe Nerd DailyThis brilliant, confounding, and heartstopping sequel will quench the thirst of the fans, but not without leaving a new set of mysteries to keep us hooked ... Muir’s back with the same unique writing style, if not more visceral and more atmospheric. The author describes everything in great detail and uses metaphors and other literary devices that make certain lines and moments so poetic and powerful. I also loved that we get to see the signature humour and sarcasm we first witnessed back in Gideon. ... mind-boggling from start to finish, and it’s an electrifying sequel you do not want to miss.
