For both Zane and Darby, their small town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under?
An epic story as only Nora Roberts can tell it, Under Currents had everything from sweet romance to murder and several forms of abuse, but most of all, it showed us how the love of family and friends can transform our lives for the better ... Roberts’ storytelling here was on point and filled with such real issues, some admittedly disturbing, and honest, raw emotions that everything rang true. It might have been a bit lengthy, but I think the pacing was perfect and carried the story forward in a natural way ... At times dark and chilling with a twisting, suspenseful plotline, other times hopeful and filled with warmth, Under Currents captured my heart with its realistic characters and their long but triumphant journey.
Once again, Nora Roberts has created a cast of characters I wish I could meet in real life. I loved the warm and inviting nature of the town and the people who make their home there ... Some readers might take issue with the ease with which Zane and Darby achieve their happy ending, but I was quite willing to suspend my disbelief and fall into the story. There’s definitely a place in my reading life for fast-paced, high conflict stories, but there’s also a place for books like this where the hero and heroine don’t have to work quite so hard for the good things in life. Under Currents isn’t my favorite of Ms. Roberts’ books, but it’s one I’m glad I read.
Prolific and hugely popular author Roberts...combines complex characters with a vivid setting to create a real page-turner. Broken into four sections, each of which packs a punch, this contemporary fiction mixed with a bit of suspense is completely engaging. Expect wide appeal beyond the author's regular fanbase.
