It's the 1960s, and Peregrine Fisher has just been fired. Soon after, she receives a letter from The Adventuresses' Club of the Antipodes: 'Please attend urgent meeting regarding inheritance.' Peregrine, it turns out, is Phryne Fisher's long-lost niece. Aunt Phryne went missing, but her will stipulated that Peregrine should inherit not just Phryne's fortunes, but also her seat in the Adventuresses' Club. Peregrine must prove herself worthy of a seat at the table—so when a fellow member is accused of murder, she jumps at the chance to help.
Author Katherine Kovacic does an excellent job placing readers in the swinging decade with references to music, fashion, cars and more. A fun, fast-paced read, Just Murdered also has a great heroine. Peregrine is intelligent and independent, and her jack-of-all-trades background allows her to cleverly unspool the threads of the mystery. The other Adventuresses make for intriguing characters, too ... Just Murdered will leave readers anxious to get their hands on Peregrine’s next case.
From odd jobber to adventuress, Peregrine Fisher proves a worthy successor to her Aunt Phryne ... Based on the hit TV sequel, this has all the pizzazz of the Phryne Fisher novels updated for a younger generation.
A sprightly pace, amusing characters, and a vividly rendered Melbourne bode well for the sequel. Fans of Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher series will want to check out this one.
