A book that taps into our fascination with the follies of the impossibly rich at the same time that it ponders real questions about the ethics of social engineering via medical advances in organ regeneration ... There is so much voyeuristic pleasure to be had as Maggie acclimates into an almost impossibly lush and lavish world ... Witherspoon and Coben revel in the details … This is the kind of thriller that invites you into a gilded empyrean that compels you and repels you in equal measure ... The book’s plot mechanics hum along with great pace and verve, even if a few of its particulars are too far-fetched to swallow ... The two authors deliver a fun ride into a shadow land.
Once you dig deeper, the collaboration behind Gone Before Goodbye makes a lot of sense ... This turns out to be an ideal match, and the result is a novel that moves at breakneck speed. It stays one step ahead of the reader at each turn, keeping the guessing and predictions coming with each passing chapter ...
Witherspoon and Coben do an admirable job of never taking their foot off the gas, resulting in a thriller that is exhaustingly satisfying ... The constant shift in plot makes it nearly impossible for readers to figure out what will happen next or how the story will end ... I suggest that you just strap in for a wild ride and enjoy!
You need a copy, stat. (Take this from a gal who blew through it in six hours) ... A propulsive setup filled with mystery and intrigue ... Gone Before Goodbye delivered on all fronts—a deeply painful death, international machinations of the sinister medical variety, plot twists and enough red herrings to keep me guessing until I turned the last page ... It was everything I expected from Coben as a writer ... While I found the novel highly entertaining, I was bothered by some POV changes I found rather inconsistent ... But overall, it was a spectacular debut for Witherspoon and hallmark of Coben's best work. The writing is crisp, clean and detailed, with a satisfying ending. Definitely worth a reading binge into the wee hours of the morning.
