Mary Higgins Clark captivates her readers with another thrilling read, demonstrating how when big businesses with money and power are being jeopardized they will go to any length to protect their assets no matter the consequences.
This book was written very well in terms of ease of understanding. There were no crazy plot twists or sudden shifts in the writing, which made it easy to read. I did, however, get a little bored midway through the book as it seemed like the plot just dragged for a bit. The cast of characters was likable, though with several characters being just puppets to the higher-ups. No big surprises with this story, but it was an enjoyable read.
... mark[s] a notable stretch for Clark, who clearly relishes the opportunity to show a bunch of high-priced lowlifes scrambling to cover up Matthews’ bad behavior without leaving any trace that they’re doing so ... savvy readers will realize long before Gina does that one of the conspirators at REL whose wings she plans to clip has ideas about clipping hers first ... Clark's usual mixture now updated, with surprising and welcome assurance, for a new generation of imperiled women.
... [an] enjoyable standalone ... No surprise, the good guys prevail, and the bad guys get their just desserts. Clark’s many fans will be more than satisfied.
