... intriguing ... The briskly paced Fair Warning spins on its realistic look at journalism as Connelly, who worked as a reporter at the South Florida Sun Sentinel and the Los Angeles Times, makes the minutia of reporting exciting. Connelly is careful not to glamorize reporting — as if anyone believes it is a glamorous profession — but shows that good journalism is based on getting details right and ethics. Connelly also illustrates the energizing “addictive momentum” that a journalist often feels when a story that can right a wrong comes together ... should please fans as it fits well in Connelly’s oeuvre.
... really of the moment ... But no matter how modern-day the subject, there’s still plenty of that good old fashioned storytelling which Michael Connelly does so well. He takes you into the nuts and bolts of modern-day journalism and demonstrates that not all reporters are as unreliable as current opinion would have you believe. The up-against-the-deadline moments zing, in contrast to some of the more ‘scientific’ moments which demand a little more focus from the reader.
... entertaining if subpar ... Connelly keeps things moving briskly, but neither the plot nor the lead is up to his usual high standard, and he doesn’t stick the landing. Fans will hope for a return to form next time.
