MixedLibrary JournalWhile it is helpful to get an outside perspective, it is obvious that Williams’s voice is missing from the book, especially to counter Marzorati’s often critical tone. This is particularly apparent in discussions her off-the-court pursuits or her use of social media. Tennis fans, especially, will be interested in the author’s conversations with different professionals and coaches about the intricate details of Williams’s game. The level of this analysis is quite impressive; the depth of detail may be too much for a casual observer of the sport ... At times, Mazorati’s critical tone takes away from the reading experience.

PositiveLibrary JournalWhile a number of books have been written about Yogi Berra (1925–2015), none are as comprehensive as this in-depth account by sportswriter Pessah. Featuring firsthand interviews with those who knew Berra well, supported by research from secondary sources, the book sheds insight into baseball history during Berra’s playing career ... Not only does the work focus on Berra’s career, it also explains how he became such a legendary figure in the sport. The one possible drawback might be the work’s high level of detail, which may be overwhelming for most casual readers ... A thorough, engaging read for Berra fans of Yankee admirers
Deborah Riley Draper
PositiveLibrary Journal... important ... For a number of the athletes, the authors start by telling their stories beginning in childhood. This can be confusing as the story is told chronologically and jumps from athlete to athlete in a certain part of his or her life and then circles back to an earlier time. The amount of research, however, that went into both projects is impressive, presenting details about how conflicted some athletes were on boycotting the games ... Even though the organization of the book could have been improved, overall it will appeal to readers interested in the history of the Olympics and World War II and might best serve as a companion piece to the documentary.
