PositiveAssociated PressThe Spectacular is an homage to womanhood, motherhood, sexuality and queerness as it chronicles the lives of three ferociously strong protagonists who are wildly different from one another. The first half is chock-full of action, drama, energy, and excitement. The characters are beautifully flawed and so alive as they all scramble through life searching for happiness. In the second half, that energy dissipates a bit ... Nevertheless, once you settle in to the time jump, it becomes a compelling exploration of what happens when we grow older and are still desperately searching for what we want.

PositiveToronto Globe and MailTies That Tether is a captivating and charming read, but it falls short at certain moments. Some of the qualities in the characters – such as Azere’s obsession with romantic comedies – feel a little forced, rather than skilfully woven into the narrative. That being said, the book is also an intriguing examination into the dynamics of family relationships and what it means to have pride in one’s culture and heritage. It also holds some unexpected twists and turns that will keep readers engaged until the end.
