MixedIrish Independent (IRE)One of the strange things about this book is the degree to which it lacks a female perspective. One can only assume that this is deliberate. Perhaps the idea is to show how flatly the men, particularly Peter, see the women in their lives, how unable they are to process them in three dimensions — but if so, it doesn’t fully work ... The chess theme sits on a knife-edge between being well-observed and being, well, a bit much ... This book feels a bit too long ... It is perfectly readable and entertaining.
